Review of Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987) by Stuart A — 10 Oct 2011
Planes, Trains and Automobiles, starring John Candy and Steve Martin is a very clever film, a film that manages to be very funny whilst still producing moments of real sadness. The story of a man who is trying to get home for thanksgiving but is halted at every turn, whilst being in the company of a man who would try anyone's patience! I have seen this so many times I've lost count, its a film that I can quote nearly every scene but at each viewing still feels fresh, which is a true indication of a great movie.
Many people regard this as John Candys finest film and I can't argue with that! Candy has so many great moments its hard to pick a favourite, he displays his comic genius but shows us his true acting talents as well.
The film is an example that you don't have to be smutty or crude to be really funny. Do yourself a favour, buy it and enjoy a feel good movie. RIP John Candy.
