Classic eighties comedy pairing Steve Martin's straight guy with John Candy's amusingly obnoxious oaf, and both are at the top of their game. Combine their great chemistry with a theme that virtually any viewer can relate to--the frustrations of public transport--and you're definitely onto a winner.

Between the comedic scenes, director John Hughes intersperses a surprising element of melancholy, which of course shifts into a whole load of sentiment by the movie's end, but even more surprisingly it actually works, creating an at times hilarious, at other times touching film, which has become a true guilty pleasure for many a film fan.
