Review of Planes (2013) by Leonard E — 24 Nov 2013
This movie finds new and creative ways to define the term 'Ripoff'. Dane Cook does his very best Owen Wilson impression (He's so convincing that Amy thought Owen Wilson was the main character).
They throw in John Ratzenberger to try and convice you it's a Pixar film (it is *not*). The 'Chug' character is a dead-ringer for Mater. Basically, if you took all the most stale elements from Cars and Cars 2, slapped some wings on the characters and made it a movie, this would be it.
Somehow, the characters themselves (at least the ones that aren't ripoffs from Cars) are pretty good. But the story is so weak and predicable I slept though half of it and rolled my eyes through the other half.
You know those movies on Netflix that try to ride the coat-tails of better films? This is it. Disney is cannibalizing themselves. Grade C-.
