Review of Planes (2013) by Brandon W — 27 Nov 2013
I've been looking forward to Planes for a while now and it delivered! This is a very nicely made movie. Nothing special but nothing terrible. Dane Cook plays his character well! He is just a likable plane which you end up routing for in the end.
All the supporting cast do great jobs except for Priyanka Chopra as Dusty's romantic interest. I found her kind of bland. The villain is your stereotypical big shot racer who is afraid of anyone taking his title away.
I've seen this villain before but I thought he was done well here with some funny dialogue which actually made me laugh. The humor is clever and works for everybody, not just little kids with poop and fart jokes.
Some jokes are in there for the adults and teenagers that the little ones might miss. I like when animated movies appeal to everybody. The place where this exceeds is the animation! The landscapes of the world are breathtaking! The musical score is really well done as well! I can't think of many animated movies with great musical scores that aren't musicals.
Overall this was an enjoyable time. Do you have to rush out to the nearest theatre to watch it? No, but if you do, you will have a great movie that everyone in the family will enjoy! Well done Disney!
