Review of Planes (2012) by Lawrence H — 13 Sep 2013
Disney & Pixar produced Cars. That was a wow.
Then came Cars 2. That was okay.
They must have realized that may be Cars 3 would be a risky venture so they came out with something new on the same engine of Cars.
Introducing 'Planes'.
I would describe Planes as Cars on Wheels or in better terms Cars Part 3 with a flying engine.
The Colors in the movie are great.
The Effects are superb.
But the most important bit in the franchise - The Characters and the Storyline - well, sadly and shockingly to say - Not good.
This would be the first Disney & Pixar Animated Movie I actually nearly fell asleep to.
Why do I say that this movie is a Flop?
1. The Characters are very similar to that of Cars. (Trust me - all of them - very similar).
2. The Storyline is very similar to that of Cars (Hero facing unbelievable odds and winning in the end).
3. The Moral of the Story is also the same (Believe in yourself).
4. Somewhere in the middle of the movie - it becomes a drag and gets awfully boring. The only reason I stayed awake was because of the kids in the theatre who were screaming and getting restless.
5. There was nothing new in the entire movie. Absolutely nothing. Even the ending was very predictable.
Moment of Truth.
I would say this was a bad show by Disney and Pixar and for a Die-Hard Fan like me - An Utter Disappointment. And there were moments where it did get absolutely silly - like the introduction of the Indian Plane and the Corny Indian Music but yeah, at least they tried something I guess.
Overall Rating.
4 out of 10.
