Review of Planes (2012) by Asher D — 10 Nov 2013
A fairly safe former direct to video feature from the Mouse House attempting this david vs goliath story set around a plane race in the world of Cars and in an obvious similar animating style to Pixar.
While hardly what one would call a flop or a game changer, the studio and filmmakers are doing this one as a by the numbers story and a bit of a cash grab to bring in some merch money and the like, even to the point of hiring like sounding voice for the leads that sound eriely similar to the main cast of Cars for familiarity for those watching (Skipper sounds weirdly like the late Paul Newman etc).
Animation is suprisingly alright for this type of project and is what it is but still is to be considered disappointing after the recent resurgence of recent Mouse House releases of Wreck It Ralph and Tangled which really pulse with life and humour.
