Review of Plan 9 from Outer Space (1957) by Kendyl C — 02 Oct 2013

Any movie fan that can understand and empathize with Ed Wood's motives and un-exploited talent finds impossible to rate Plan 9 from Outer Space with half a star. That just can't be done.

Fans around the world have used the funniest logic ever conceived for rating this. Since this, unintentionally, became one of the "worst movies ever made" for the wrong reasons, since it is a milestone in bad filmmaking and it is not ashamed to prove it, and since it features "LOL-worthy" elements that can't be immitated by today's standards, this movie deserves a perfect 5-star score. Trust me, people do that, and I love their logic. Nevertheless, I am obliged to be objective. This is a terrible film, assured, but I would watch it endless times. If you pile up a bunch of idiotic friends (I do have some) and watch with them this beautiful shit with Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman back-to-back, you may not laugh harder any other night.

Ed Wood did not realize it since the beginning, but people were meant to laugh with this movie while hating it at the same time, not realizing that, deep inside, they just love it to pieces. It's just too damn moronic and horribly conceived to be true. This was made in a time were sci-fi and the "space era" were in its boom period. Ed Wood, proudly, belonged in it. Bela Lugosi's death is the funniest death scene you will ever "see". That's a fact; you can't argue with that.

So, after a strong and difficult trouble of inner conflicts, I give this alien/vampire/zombie/skeleton/laser/UFO adventure two stars. There are worse directors and worse "films" nowadays. At least, the fact that you may want to watch this again under the influence of alcohol just for the sake of laughs is worth something.
