Review of Plan 9 from Outer Space (1957) by Frank V — 04 Jul 2014
What a massive trainwreck- and I mean that with all due respect to Mr. Ed Wood. Plan 9 is a rare type of film that can be found among the ranks of The Room, Troll 2, The Happening or Batman and Robin. It's a film so unintentionally bad, it becomes a classic of cinema.
The acting is completely nonexistent as some of the actors are obviously just reading lines off a teleprompter, and others just stand in the same spot doing nothing the whole film. The big one two punch of the film would be the combination of the script and the line delivery.
The lines of dialogue written are incredibly quote-worthy and very insightful; if I may demonstrate: "We are all interested in the future for that is where you and I will spend the rest of our lives, and remember, my friends, future events such as these will affect you in the future!"- classic.
Ed Wood also accomplished a major feat as his direction managed to step back to the 1920's in how boringly drab it is. I'm sure I could count the amount of times the camera moved on my fingers.
It's no The Room, but Plan Nine from Outer Space is staggering, essential, and above all horribly terribly bad. 4/5.
