Review of Places in the Heart (1984) by Priscilla S — 10 Jul 2012
Perfectly capturing a sense of the time period, "Places in the Heart" is a story about what heart, courage, and hope is all about. Sally Field, Danny Glover, John Malkovich, and Ed Harris were all fantastic.
Their performances were incredibly real, making each and every one of them relatable. What I liked about this film is that though it dealt with issues from the Depression era (racism, debt), a lot of the issues though set in the time period were relatable for in even today (adultery, raising children as a single parent, dealing with disasters, etc.
) The film extremely bittersweet, don't expect a happily-ever-after, perfect ending. Instead, expect a story full of hope and continued determination in the characters to strive to make the best and most of what they have.
