Review of Pixels (2010) by Ray G — 21 Jul 2016
This has to be the most wasted potential in a long time. The premise sounded awesome, Chris Columbus directing it, and the effects look pretty good. Unfortunately Pixels gets the Adam Sandler curse with a terrible script that has little-to-no logic, ATROCIOUS dialogue, and pretty generic characters.
I will say there were moments where my friends and I were laughing out loud because of how bad it was, but at the same time we were wondering why is this happening and talking about how none of this makes any sense.
I was so angry at the movie at some parts that I wanted to throw my soda on the floor. Did I say there's no logic in this film. If they had gotten an actor who doesn't have a lot of credibility anymore, much like Adam Sandler, to play Peter Dinklage's character I would feel a lot better.
I think Dinklage is a great actor but I don't know how he got through filming without having a Christian Bale rant about it. His character, like most in this film, was so dumb and stupid that I honestly could barley watch him on screen.
I will say it was fun to see the 8-bit characters I know and love on screen, especially q-bert, even though he spoke real words and around the end of the film something happens with him that makes no sense, but he was cool to see.
And the third act is decent, mostly because it's an all-out nostalgia fest. Overall this movie is kind of a waste of time but if your an old video game fan like myself then it might, again might, be worth checking out.
