Review of Pixels (2010) by Colby H — 16 May 2017
This was my most anticipated release of 2015. The trailers revealed a very creative plot. It looked promising. Before I saw it, I was wondering, how can they mess this up? Well, they did somehow. Adam Sandler was one of the best comedic actors of the 90s. Now of days, he has been panned. I guess that's what I should expect these days. As a person who is a fan of retro 80s arcade games, I liked the concept. What flowed that concept is where it messed up. Pixels' biggest problem is that it was a comedy. They weren't necessarily horrible jokes but they were pretty flat. I got a few chuckles here and there, but my point is, it would be more watchable if it wasn't a comedy. What it needed to be is Independence Day with video games.
Another problem is that the action scenes are underwhelming when you pay attention. The screenplay was also weak with it's dialogue. One thing that I thought was pretty good was the CGI. One of my biggest problems with this film is that Kevin James is the pres of the U.S.A. As you can guess, he wasn't believable at all whatsoever.
Over all, It wasn't the worst of the 2015, but it had huge potential, and it wasted a ton of it. 2/5 stars.
