Review of Pitch Perfect 3 (2017) by Paul B — 22 Dec 2017
I'm a big fan of the original Pitch Perfect and enjoyed its sequel, however, this installment is a disappointing bow-out for our Bellas.
Pitch Perfect is at it's best when it's being irreverent and focusing on the singers, however in this it gets bogged down in a rediculous subplot involving Amy (Rebel Wilson) and her estranged father and that's where the film falls down. I didn't know that John Lithgow, an excellent actor, could make a film worse but he did in Pitch Perfect 3. Australia has a population of 24 million and yet the makers of this film cast John Lithgow an American, to do the most horrendous Australian accent. I was watching his scenes through my fingers, it was so cringe-worthy. What were you thinking John?
There are a few laughs to be had, primarily from Chrissie Fit, the Latino member of the Bellas, whose deadpan delivery is spot on but the film is let down by a paper-thin plot.
Pitch Perfect 3 is far from perfect and this encore performance is pretty flat.
