Review of Pitch Perfect 3 (2017) by Faisal C — 11 Jan 2018
The film has good intentions and pleases a lot of the franchise (what it has become) more ardent fans.
However lazy writing and casting of mainly the same cast as the first two films in the franchise make it more sequel fodder.
The film is supposed to centre around a group of accapelles, The Bardon Belles. However the Bardon has been dropped as they have been officially replaced by new models.
The film descends into a comedy about mainly Rebel Wilson's character of Fat Amy.
Fat Amy's appearance and her relationship with her estranged father (John Lithgow) become central themes of the film.
Wilson has comedic value don't get me wrong but I sense lazy writing again and similarities with other 'comedy' films of recent years. I am thinking of the Paul Feig vehicle Spy from a few years ago.
I just hope that the studio now put the franchise to bed and don't chase easy pounds/dollars by releasing another film.
