Review of Pitch Perfect 3 (2017) by Kerry P — 22 Jan 2018
I, a 24-year-old (technically 23 at the time)... went to the movies... alone... on a Friday night... at 9 pm... and saw Pitch Perfect 3. And you know what? I had a pretty nice time. I bought this thing called the MoviePass last week and basically, I pay $9.
95 a month and you can see unlimited movies. Crazy deal, I know. But I digress. Pitch Perfect 3 was pretty okay, but I'll be honest the women are distractingly beautiful so it's tough to judge the cinematography.
Maybe it has something to do with me being forced to go to countless dance recitals and competitions as a child but a group of pretty girls moving in choreographed unison is oddly mesmerizing. But my scaring childhood aside, there wasn't a whole lot in this movie other than singing and dancing, like they really decided to throw away the whole plot in this one.
Now I know what you're thinking, the Pitch Perfect series is not known for its plot lines but this movie really took it another level. Of course, there was comedy, romance, and action (three must-haves for any movie if I'm going to like it) but it was really just a time filler in between songs.
The songs were great, the dancing was great, Britany Snow looked great, as did Anna Kendrick, Halie Stienfield, Anna Camp, Ruby Rose, Ester Dean, Alexis Knapp... You see why I kept getting distracted? It's an interesting movie because there's such a disparity in talent.
Like every line or joke Anna Kendrick, Britanny Snow or Halie Stienfield had was great and they did it perfectly but then they would try and give a quick one-liner or set up line to one of the other characters and it would just fall flat.
Also, the Fat Amy shtick stinks, it might actually be all of her characters at this point but its so overplayed and try hardish that she was not the least bit funny. Also her dad in the movie, John Litghow, idk if he was doing it satirically but that was possibly the worst fake Austrailian accent I've ever heard.
Like so bad you'd think it was a joke but he was trying just hard enough to make it seem like it wasn't supposed to be intentionally bad. Like it was really bad. All in all, it was a fun movie to watch, I enjoyed it.
Would I watch it again, probably not. Would I tell my friends to watch, sure, but I don't really like my friends that much anyway.
