Review of Pitch Perfect 3 (2017) by Sara P — 24 Dec 2017
Pitch Perfect 3 was fantastic, far better than Pitch Perfect 2. It was a great film for a threequel, but I'll start with the negative. The pacing was very fast, almost it's a short film. In parts, this hindered it's development. We see the Bellas fail at one point, but it's confusing, because they're performance is actually good. Because it's so fast, we don't get as many of those ad libbed moments from Rebel Wilson to enjoy, and the character development is minimal in some ways. However ...
The almost music video pace keeps the film breezy. The plot is kind of fun, and a good reason for them to reunite, to get through a road bump their live have hit, a mid 20s crisis. Although the character development in anemic in some ways, many of the characters are given good moments, even the two silent Bellas. It was nice to see them focused on for more than a quick cutaway. I also enjoyed the Latina character, who didn't seemed saddled down with the frankly racist humor from the first film.
Fans of the series will enjoy this film, the Bellas are back and its fun to see them back in action, hear them singing and enjoying an adventure that is worth all our time. Oh, and the action film that it veers into for a moment is a welcome change of pace. Here's hoping they come back for a fourth film.
