Review of Pitch Perfect (2012) by Amy B — 02 Dec 2013
Free spirited Beca (Anna Kendrick), a wannabe music producer heads to Barden University to appease her father before she follows her own dreams of becoming a Producer and moves to L.A. After being ambushed in the shower by Chloe (Brittany Snow), Beca auditions and then gets invited to join the Barden Belles, an all female singing group who are on the ICCA competition trail. Enter Jesse (Skylar Austin) one of the new recruits from an all male rival singing group also from Barden called The Treblemakers. Beca and Jesse fast become friends resulting in Beca's attitude towards School, The Bellas and Music to be altered. With these changes in her life Beca decides that the Belles need a new, more up to date sound to the dismay of Aubrey (Anna Camp) and after a failure of a performance, a repeat of the year before (outfits and all) and with a chance second shot to win the ICCA competition Aubrey decides to give in and hand the reins over to Beca who leads the Belles to Victory with her own musical mix.
The quirky Belles provide the audience with plenty of laughs especially 'Fat Amy' or should we call her Patrica, played by Rebel Wilson. Pitch Perfect is a flawless combination of both Glee and Mean Girls with a brilliant selection of songs both old and new.
