Review of Pitch Perfect 2 (2015) by Stephen F — 28 Jun 2015

A pointless sequel to a movie which barely just worked in the first place. It was lazy, slow, and kinda dumb just like Fat Amy. The premise was funny at first but then you realise you're not laughing, just watching as it tries so hard to be the first movie, it wants you to love it. Desperation sets it, so they bring back an old favourite (not), who nobody even realised was not in the movie until she showed up!

Becca is still supremely unlikable, Fat Amy is still not funny, the gay character is still a sad stereotype, the slut is still a slut, and we still can't understand the asian girl ha-ha-ha... Don't get me started on the Latino girl, what the hell they were trying to do fell at the first hurdle.

Then there is ze Germanz! Could they be anymore German, holy shit! The only thing missing from them were swastikas! Also they they were dressed like the Average Joe's after a uniform mix-up! Speaking of Dodgeball ze bad, bad Germanz, Das Sound Machine, reminded me of Globo Gym.

Probably worst of all was the ending, after all the setup, build up, and montages, the climax never actually happened! It's one thing to sit through a poor movie, but at least you get a pay off. Felt to me like they filmed the ending, couldn't get it right, scrapped it and just filmed some other crap.

Plus side though Keegan Michael Key and Snoop Dogg were amusing, and one scene involving Fat Amy crossing the street was legitimately funny. Oh and John Michael Higgins and Elizabeth Banks were just as amusing, if not a little hit and miss, as they were in the first movie.

Please don't make another one. The bottom of the barrel has been scraped and there is nothing down there but black olives and Larry the Cableguy!
