Review of Pitch Perfect 2 (2015) by Skylar Z — 24 Jun 2015
Pitch Perfect 2 manages to please most and win over its devout fans; however, it does not quite reach the expectations set forth by its predecessor. The first movie was consistently funny with catchy and memorable musical numbers strung throughout.
While Pitch Perfect 2 upholds its comedic prowess, it seems to fall short in terms of its musical renditions. The song created for the movie itself (Flashlight) was second-rate at best and the acapella covers felt disjointed.
However, the movie has some powerful saviors working their magic. Rebel Wilson is hysterical throughout; responsible for most of the comedic scenes, she is half the reason why I continued to watch the movie.
The other reason: Anna Kendrick. Beca's (Anna Kendrick) individual dilemmas maintain audience concern and curiosity. With Rebel Wilson and Anna Kendrick leading the film, it's bound to have its great moments.
Unfortunately, great moments do not always make a great movie.
