Unsure of style, devoid of any real visual thrills in the first half, and outlandishly cheesy throughout, "Pitch Black" starts the Riddick legacy with a less than impressive entry to the story.

Vin Diesel gives it his all in the role, but with very low-budget effects, questionable lighting, and a script that will have you chuckling more than actually caring, the film falls flat on it's face, before slightly picking up the pace in the second half and becoming very enjoyable.

It's almost a guilty pleasure of mine, but I wouldn't put it down that much. It's a very unique film and I would really like to watch it again and study what the director was trying to present here.

For now, it's a fine watch. It's boring here and there, but by the end it is salvageable. "Pitch Black" is style over substance, and the style comes off comical.
