Review of Pitch Black (2000) by Michael P — 23 Sep 2013
The first installment of David Twohy's Riddick trilogy explores an interesting and innovative sci-fi concept. The acting is hit or miss, with the misses missing badly, and there are several unnecessarily cheesy scenes; but overall it's an above average sci-fi action/adventure flick.
The creatures in the film are incredibly well designed and terrifying in all the right ways. This is the role that Vin Diesel was born for... This and his role in the Fast and Furious franchise. The effects aren't perfect and the direction and plot aren't without there flaws, but I was entertained throughout the entire film.
Bottom line, this is a great action/adventure popcorn flick that I'd recommend to anyone who wants something a bit different out of the genre.
