Review of Pitch Black (2000) by Renzo V — 22 Jan 2014
"VIN DIESEL ON DARK PLANET".
- 'Pitch Black' is a sci-fi horror movie form 2000 by director David Twohy (The Perfect Getaway) and formed the first movie in the 'Riddick'-saga. Although the story resembles 'Alien' in a way (a group of people get stranded on a unknown planet and get attacked by creatures), I really enjoyed this movie because of the dark setting and the introduction of the Anti-hero Richard B. Riddick played by Vin Diesel. Very entertaining with an unexpected twist in the end. Don't be afraid of the dark, be afraid of what's in the dark.
A space transport ship crashes on a unknown desert planet after being struck by a meteor storm. Among the survivors are pilot Carolyn Fry, bounty hunter Williams J. John, the priest Abu Al-Walid and his three pupils, the runaway teenager Jack, lovers Zeke and Shazza, antiques dealer Paris and the dangerous convict Richard B. Riddick. Unable to call for help, this unlikely group of people need to work together. When one of them is found dead, the escaped Riddick seems to be the obvious culprit. But when the night falls, the planet reveals its secrets and a much bigger evil comes out. When the group is attacked by horrible creatures, they will need to trust Riddick, who is able to see in the dark, to guide them to safety. Will they be able to get of this pitch black planet?
