Review of Pitch Black (2000) by Maksim B — 09 Oct 2013
The story is about a group of people who travel to a far away galactic outpost called New Mecca in a spaceship. They crash-land and on an abandoned planet that has three suns and no night. The a few crew members survive including junior pilot Carolyn Fry played by Radha Mitchell, a police office played by Cole Hauser and a prisoner named Richard Riddick played by Vin Diesel.
As they wander around the desert world, one of them killed by a mutant creature living in an abandoned mining site. The vicious and bloodthirsty mutants, who live underground, have killed all previous inhabitants of the planet and guess what; the sun is their weakness! But research reveals that the planet has a total eclipse every 22 years, and the latest one is due any moment.
The first film in the now-known Riddick trilogy that was once a breakout role for Vin Diesel. This movie has its flaws but it is still on top of the scale. Pitch Black gets a 8.5/10.
