Review of Pitch Black (2000) by Deb S — 03 Jan 2010
Pitch Black opens with a basic shot of a cargo/passenger vessel moving lazily through space. They run into a micro meteor shower and is forced to crash land on a strange planet with scary blood thirsty creatures that only come out at night.
Vin Diesal is superb as a con being transported by a bounty hunter. He is a dangerous killer with little interest in anything else besides his survival. He is the highlight of this movie with his cool portrayal of an anti-hero and has a type of menacing presence that only very few actors can achieve. The second highlight is the visuals both the lighting and effects with the way the 3 suns was orbiting and the eclipse were beautiful scenes.
Pitch Black is a great sci-fi/horror film and better than I had expected. The story is similar to Alien but expanded to a greater scale. I think you'll it highly entertaining so sit back, relax and enjoy.
