Review of Pitch Black (2000) by Max Z — 28 Mar 2010
I thought that Pitch Black was a decent horror sci fi film. It's nothing outstanding, but has enough shocks, action, gore, and somewhat strong performances to give it a C+ grade. Vin Disel is well Vin Disel, Kieth David is great, as always, but other actors and actresses that I'm not familiar with though seem to pull it off with corny, but dramatic roles.
I will admit I haven't read any of the books, so I can't compare and contrast the movie to the novel, but I can tell you that Pitch Black is denfiently a C+ horror sci fi that is worth seeing IF you want to see something ordinary rather than amazing.
The CG effects are good for the time, the gore, well, gory enough on a sci fi horror perspective, the action is just plain good. As far as the music goes, like I keep mentioning this being a decent film, is again nothing outstanding, but fits the mood of the movie.
The alien/dino-like creatures reminded me of how the aliens in Aliens could camofloge in thier surrondings. To wrap it up, check Pitch Black out if you want to see something average.
