Review of Pistol Opera (2001) by Zak G — 30 Apr 2004
Sometimes you take a chance and it doesn't pay off. That's what happened when I saw Pistol Opera. It sounded kind of cool, and the reviews were generally positive. A stylish film about hitmen, what's not to like? Unfortunately, it wasn't my kind of movie. At all. I like unusual movies, but I like the linear ones that don't make sense but still have a plot. This is more Mulholland Drive strange than Repo Man strange. In fact, Mulholland Drive seems downright comprehensible compared to this. I'm giving it points for style (I really like the use of reds and yellows), but that's about it.
I still can't get completely over my cold, which is annoying as hell. Just thought I'd share.
I picked Imperialism, Limehouse, and Lionheart for win, place, and show. I was kind of close. But I always pick based on how much I like their names.
