Review of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) by Brandon W — 03 Aug 2015
This is my favourite movie of all-time! When I watched it again today, I was taken back to seeing it in the theatre when I was just 8 years old. I not only thought it was one of the longest movies I'd ever seen, but one of the most intense and scariest.
Watching it now as an adult, I still can get invested in the story and the characters because they are written so well. Jack Sparrow is one of the best characters in film history. Everything from his walk and his mannerisms to his ability to manipulate and adapt to the situations around him.
Captain Barbossa is a great villain as well. The perfect counter-weight to Jack Sparrow. Pure evil and won't stop at nothing until he gets what he wants. All the other side characters are great as well.
Will Turner, Elizabeth Swann, Commodore Norrington, etc. The action along with the score of the film are truly outstanding. I've said before that a great score can turn a good film into an amazing one except this movie was great already.
Add one of the best film scores of all time on top and you get my favourite movie of all time!
