The first, best, freshest, and only good film in the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' franchise. It's not without its flaws, but it's fun, funny, has charm and some great performances, notably by Jonny Depp and Geoffrey Rush.
Supported by a good score, direction, and pacing, this is an enjoyably entertaining nautical swashbuckling tale of yore. The sequels gut the heart and soul out of the characters and spirit laid down in 'Curse of the Black Pearl'.
Watch this one, and this one only. Watch the sequels at yourâ< peril! 4/5*.
