Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides.

Much to my surprise this film ended up being my favourite out of all the films thus far. Sure various aspects in the plot and the characters could have been fleshed out but over all enjoyable to watch. I enjoyed how much the humour and the affections of the characters all played a part in the erratic fights and great effects that aid this great swash-buckling adventure. This film brings to life older titles using often thought cliché driving points to drive the plot. Unfortunately this could also serve as a downfall as it amuses that you as the viewer already you more than just the basics of the legends surrounding the films plot rather than just telling you.

My favourite bit, regretfully to my manly guns and big explosions side, is the romance between two of the side characters that portrays a wonderful innocence that is interesting to watch which is few and far between in modern titles. The downfall of this is that I cared more for them than the main protagonists' and the 'thing' they had going on. This meant I saw a lot more of the romance that I didn't manage to enjoy until the end and not enough of the Cleric and the Mermaid. Over all I give it a 4 because I thoroughly enjoyed it and thus far is the only one of the series that has prompted me to look at the Pirate theme as a good and solid basis for writing a good story.

So in my book that's a plus. So why not a 5? Well the fore mentioned assumptions that lead to underlying concepts getting completely missed like the fact that characters like Angelica and Black-beard have never been mentioned up until now out despite their huge effect on the characters. I was pleased to be ride of Turner and Swan for a time but it's strange thinking of their effect on the plot how they aren't mentioned. These are all quite small complaints and honestly though it can feel slow at times it's a great watch.
