Review of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011) by Felipe A — 12 Jun 2013
A film of two halves with the first part forgettable & quite a drag & the last part quite enjoyable. Sadly the franchise is showing its age & no fountain of youth can breathe life into this old sea dog.
Much like the Resident Evil, Predator & Alien franchise it's had the life strangled out of it & it really needs to have a hole blown into its hull & sunk into the murky depths of Davey Jones's Locker.
It's not as bad as the third instalment where Johnny Depp acted like he'd had enough of the role, he seems more interested in this fourth attempt. Gone are Orlando Bloom & Keira Knightley which adds a bit of oddity to this film & you do miss their presence.
In this fourth instalment we get the infamous Blackbeard as the protagonist as he uses Jack Sparrow to show him the whereabouts of the Fountain of Youth as they race the Spanish to the fabled fountain.
