Review of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017) by Péter S — 11 Mar 2018
IMO: I'd like to give it a higher rating, since I mostly enjoyed it (around 60% of the movie was good imho), but with the asterisk, that I like to skip a few parts (especially the parts with the bank safe), when I re-watch this movie. The villain is good, although he could be better, but he's an enjoyable villain, I only wish he could have been a little less 1 dimensional and a little more developed. Jack could use some rework/rethink, and he really should go back being a secondary character, like in the first movie, because that's where he belongs, and that's where he's the best at, now he feels really tired, and it's coming from someone, who still loves Captain Jack Sparrow and wishes for a really good movie, perhaps even as good as the first, with him in it. Barbossa is still very good, the new characters are... acceptable. I have really mixed feelings about this movie, on one hand, my inner PotC fan wants more, and my other half knows it's kinda tired now and maybe it should just stop at this point, and I should just occasionally re-watch the brilliant first movie and the others sometimes. (Sidenote, I really just wanted to see Jack and Barbossa just go on an adventure together, maybe to find a treasure ,both as pals and as rivals at the same time, kinda like in 4 (or in all movies as a matter of fact), but still that scene under the palm trees is one of my favourite potc scenes, and I wanted more of it, but I guess (*spoilers*) it won't happen now after this movie, unless they somehow bring back barbossa again with some magical mumbo jumbo).
TLDR.: For diehard potc fans, like me it's still a good, but tired watch with scenes you can skip entirely.
