Review of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017) by Sean%20 B — 06 Feb 2018
As films go it's really flat, from start to finish. Out of all 5 films in the franchise, I definitely enjoyed this one the least. I felt no connection to the film, or the characters in the film.
Nothing felt like it was earned, there were a few call backs that felt incredibly forced, especially the compass's backstory, completely removed me from the fantasy of the film.
Contrary to what I've heard alot of people say I thought Johnny Depp played the part well, but he definitely felt out of character, whereas in the other films he seems like a fool with a plan that relies on quick thinking and experience, in this he spends most of it stumbling around drunk, and it never feels justified when things work out.
I don't know why but the the spark just isn't there, it's the most disappointed I've been with a film in a long time. If you can find enjoyment in this film I envy you, because I wanted to enjoy what will probably be the last film in the series, and to see it sent off the right way, but alas, it was not t'be. Yeargh.
