Review of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017) by Late R — 21 Jan 2018
There's room for improvement, but 'Salazar's Revenge' brings the franchise back to its roots with a spectacular-looking curse, over-the-top action sequences and lots of humour. The story is simple enough and a patent attempt to try to recapture the magic of the first film - I mean, they were REALLY trying to evoke a sense of nostalgia here.
Well, to some degree, it worked. Yes, it does nothing new that we haven't seen in the previous instalments, it lacks the novelty of the first film, and the new, young characters are thinly written and quite boring, but despite all that, it has enough sea-faring adventure and excitement to make it fun, light-hearted entertainment.
