Review of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017) by Evaristo L — 30 May 2017
While this is easily the best installment in Disney's lucrative swashbuckling franchise since "The Curse Of The Black Pearl," considering how sparsely entertaining the middle three installments separating these two films were for me, it's not necessarily saying a whole lot.
And with "Dead Men Tell No Tales" not exactly defying the "Pirates Of The Caribbean" formula here (supernaturally charged villain, mystical McGuffin/plot device, physics-defying set pieces, confusing finale, etc.
) I can't exactly get away with recommending this one to you. However, if you're a big fan of the previous installments and/or you go into this one expecting what it is -- an inane, yet harmless cgi-fest featuring a couple engaging action sequences and an always watchable performance from Johnny Depp -- you might be a bit more entertained than you thought you'd be.
