Review of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017) by Miranda S — 25 May 2017
I left the theatre feeling so underwhelmed and unsatisfied. Depp sounded more like his character the Mad Hatter than Jack Sparrow which was SO frustrating the entire movie. There was no suspension or climax - I honestly didn't realize the climax was happening until after.
They threw so much random information into this, when I really hoped to see the Dutchman and crew or at least Will's father. Also quite a bit of suggestive jokes that are not in the other movies. I feel like there were no loveable characters to hold onto, anyone who was brought back from previous movies were hardly on screen, I simply found Jack's voice so annoying, and the comic mischief and dialogue just wasn't the same.
I feel so bad having said this, I was beyond excited for this movie but I just kept waiting for it to get good. This is my family's favourite franchise but it fell flat. Will's son played well though, quite similar to Will's character, and I did laugh at some parts, but overall I don't think I'd care to watch it again.
