Wow was I impressed by this one. I recently just marathoned all the Pirates of the Caribbean films and was really disappointed in the last film On Stranger Tides (2011). I complained that it didn't have any humor, it was very slow paced and had some annoying co-stars on the cast.

The film lacked heart and there wasn't anyone on the good guy side that I really even cared for including Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp). Seeing the early reviews for this new sequel that took 6 years to come out after the last one got me worried.

I thought I was going to be in for the same kind of let down from the last film. Boy was I wrong! This one ties for me with the first one for how much I liked it. This time around we follow Henry Turner (Brenton Thwaites) the son of Will (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Turner (Keira Knightley).

Henry has been on a life long quest to find a way to break the curse that Will has on him where he has to be the captain of the Flying Dutchman only being able to return to land once every ten years for one day.

Fast forward to Henry at the age of about 18 or 19 and we find him on a ship hunting pirates. His ship is attacked by the ghost pirate Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem) who leaves Henry alive to get a message threatening Captain Jack.

Soon enough Henry ends up in a hospital where he meets a young astrologist named Carina (Kaya Scodelario) who tells Henry the story of Poseidon's Trident. An ancient relic that can break any spell.

Henry agrees to help Carina and the two join forces with Captain Jack Sparrow and his crew on a race to the Trident before Captain Salazar can get there first! I probably went on with the plot too much there, but I actually enjoyed this one so sorry about that.

The film features some returning characters other than Jack Sparrow from the original trilogy and it's a nice return to form. There's a lot of heart in this film and the plot isn't all over the place or too complicated.

The film has some very funny moments in it and has a lot of cool action sequences. There's a lot of loose ends that get tied up in this film and some questions from previous films finally get answered.

I would highly recommend giving this one a look if you are a Pirates of the Caribbean fan! Also definitely stay until after the credits there's a very cool scene that hints at the future!
