Review of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017) by Spencer S — 28 May 2017
This is a borderline average movie. I would say it's slightly above average but I was really disappointed by this movie. I really enjoy pirates of the Caribbean as a whole but the movies have gotten increasing worse every time, but the best compliment I can give about this movie is that it's better than the third and fourth one.
The best parts of this movie by far are the villain (Salazar,) the special effects, the characters, and the way it wraps up the franchise. I really hope this is the last movie because it sure ended like it was and this franchise overall has lost its steam.
This movie has a very convoluted plot with some uninteresting new characters like Henry and the witch girl. I also felt there was some pacing issues and so much going on. There were so many characters and most of them had subplots which were hardly ever explored or elaborated on.
They wasted a lot of potential here and it felt like if they just made a few tweaks then it would have been a better movie. Overall, I enjoyed it but it did have a lot of issues. I really don't know what they can do with the franchise now and don't think they can make another solid movie.
