Review of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006) by Gustavmarkovic31 . — 11 Sep 2012
The second 'Pirates' movie was maligned by the critics. They said "It was just more of the same old stuff from the first movie". Well, so what!? that doesn't mean it wasn't as enjoyable as the first.
No, what hurt this sequel most was the darker and more sinister feel that came with it. The first was very fun, and this one is too, but has a more foreboding presence than the last.
Johnny Depp is good fun as usual, Keria Knightley is allowed some funny lines and scenes, and Orlando Bloom is rusty as usual, but bearable. The new villian, Davy Jones (played by Bill Nighy) is alot more terrifying than the last, because he is an undead creature with a squirming beard of tentacles. And if that doesn't frighten anyone in the least, then most of the movie won't. The film is a tangle of smartly writen humour and adventure, with Johny Depp getting the best of everything, though the long fight scene on the tropical island twists and turns around a three-man-fight, the mysterious chest with the heart of Davy Jones locked inside, surprises and everything intertwines in the storyline, bringing about a very good finish to the scene.
The ending's twist, although strange, was a bit of an anticlimax the way they set it up, but it wasn't too bad, and certainly sets up the tone for At World's End, out 2007.
