Review of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006) by Johnathon W — 13 Feb 2014
Disappointing sequel that suffers from a convoluted plot & too many characters, thus making it longer than it needs to be. The cast is back in fine form, with Depp his usual excellence as Jack Sparrow, while the new additions fit in nicelyl.
Bill Nighy's Davy Jones is a fantastic creation in both performance & visual effects, as he & the crew of the Flying Dutchman have a Lovecraftian look them, making you think of Chutulu in the best king of way.
Verbinski's direction gives things a nice atmosphere along with some great action scenes, but suffers from a plot with too many unnecessary twists & characters (Commodore Norrington & Elizabeth's father, though nicely played by the actors, could easily been cut).
The result is a film, while fun for about 2 hours, suffers from being 2 & a half hours.
