Review of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006) by Tatsuhito K — 30 Mar 2017
Watching this film back-to-back with the first one, I realized that "Dead Man's Chest" is a better and more entertaining film than the original. It is visually spectacular and exciting from start to finish, and although it is just as convoluted and contrived and overly long as the first film, I have to say I was consistently engaged in the story.
While the first film took forever for us audiences to learn where it was heading, this film hits the ground running. Johnny Depp is the best part of this film (and the franchise, really), but I also enjoyed Bill Nighy as Davy Jones and Tom Hollander (very underrated) as Cutler Beckett.
It's really good fun.
