Review of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007) by Matt H — 29 Mar 2014
Somehow even worse than Dead Man's Chest. This movie is almost THREE hours! Ridiculous. Do Will and Elizabeth even like each other? There is nothing in these last two movies (and not all that much in the first, either) that indicates why the audience is supposed to like them, they barely spend time together, and when they do they are all concerned about Jack Sparrow for some unfathomable reason.
There's way too much plot considering how little of it matters - the 256 betrayals and side changes in this movie are beyond laughable. I like how they gave Elizabeth the fake female empowerment trope of being a Captain - even though it means nothing and nothing is done with it.
Of course, trying to talk about character development in these movies is pointless since there isn't any. Seriously, these last two movies together must be some of the worst screenplays ever written for such big blockbuster movies.
