Review of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007) by Trae K — 15 May 2014
Come on, what's the TREMENDOUS hate all about? This movie isn't THAT bad. In fact, I find it to be the BEST and most ENTERTAINING installment out of the "POTC" movies. Unlike the first 2, this movie never felt incredibly slow for me; it kept me RIGHT on the edge of my seat from START to FINISH.
Johnny Depp is a LOT more fun to watch in his role as Cpt. Jack Sparrow; Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley really shine more into their roles (especially Keira who becomes more of a BADASS girl instead of just continuously being the SAME damsel-in-distress character that she was in the 1st film and only briefly in the 2nd); the music score by Hans Zimmer is more fantastic to hear than EVER before (besides "The Dark Knight" trilogy); the visuals/action sequences are even MORE entertaining and spectacular to watch as well (especially the whole Maelstrom sequence at the end); the humor is funnier (especially the whole Davy Jones' Locker sequence); it has one of the best conclusions in film history; and, most of all.
..Keith Richards' cameo appearance as Cpt. Jack Sparrow's pirate father is the TRUE show-stealer of this film. Director Gore Verbinski has ended a SUCCESSFULLY theme-park-ride-based franchise with a BANG (until the 4th film was suddenly FORCED to come out a few years later), and I find this movie to be rather UNDERRATED in my book overall.
