Review of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007) by Tim C — 16 Dec 2014
If you thought Dead Man's Chest was bloated and overly long, At World's End is aimless all over. This hugely disappointing third entry in the Pirates of the Caribbean series lacks any of the fun and wit that the first film had and all the story is is just a bunch of stuff happening one after the other.
Characters die in this but you don't feel for them as their deaths are either glanced over or there was no time devoted to developing them. The action scenes are admittedly well choreographed and could be enjoyed by themselves but having to sit through the film makes them monotonous.
Some of the visuals and production design do look stunning in places but who really cares when you have a film that's overcrowded with characters and plot points that go nowhere? Even the ending is utterly anti-climactic and I even find it more disappointing than The Matrix Revolutions' ending.
This is a film that does almost nothing for me and leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. Even Dead Man's Chest and On Stranger Tides gave me something to enjoy.
