Review of Piranha 3DD (2012) by Paul R — 31 Oct 2013
Although it lacks the fun characters and the overload of violence that it's predecessor featured, Piranha 3DD is a surprisingly entertaining sequel that introduces a new batch of characters that may not be as well constructed as the first lot but they are great bags of blood for the flesh eating fishies that await them.
This time the Piranha's are traversing more underground caves and lakes which lead them to the "Big Wet Water Park". That's pretty much it for plot but the carnage that ensues is gleeful but nowhere near as memorable or as epic as the Lake Victoria massacre.
Danielle Panabaker and Katrina Bowden are two very capable leading ladies, and it's great to see Ving Rhames come back, and the scene where he's terrified of taking a small dip into the pool is hilarious.
Chris Zylka is great as the asshole cop, cocky and arrogant and scheming, so it's great when he is killed off. The 3D is excellent yet again, the first movie looked awesome in this style so it's very fitting that the stereoscopic Piranha's returned! This is an all round fun creature feature, and although almost every feature from script to character development isn't as strong as it's predecessor Piranha 3DD delivers double the absurdity and of course, double the D's.
