Review of Piranha 3D (2010) by Stephanie S — 11 Sep 2011
I am not ashamed to say, this is a beautifully conceived big budget B-movie. This is what the Tarantino and Rodriguez Grindhouse movies should have been. It is as much an homage as it is a gloriously unabashed id-fest for the audience it is aiming for. It will lead you there and you will see it coming, then it tries to make it so much more over the top.
I saw it at home, not in 3D, but they were obviously using it to its fullest for theater goers. From liquids coming at you to limbs and bodies floating in the water (dead as well as live and naked), there were probably some people bobbing and weaving in their seats. There are wink-wink moments and everyone playing their role, no one is the self-aware Scream character, which made it that much better and the humor a bit more valid.
Really, if you like gory monster movies or party talk-to-the-screen movies, this is for you. It's about as good as it gets for that.
