Review of Piranha 3D (2010) by Jason V — 27 Jun 2012
There are two sides of Piranha: the first is the expected bloody, loud, R-rated story while the second is a homage to water terror movies that have come before (most notably Jaws). These two sides meet and the result is.
..kitschy. Wholly unbelievable. Incredibly asinine. Eye-roll inducing. Laughable. In many ways, though, it is the perfect movie to attach the 3D tag to. Why? Because no one is going to see Piranha expecting a work of genius.
We're expecting to see a certain type of movie and, by and large, the film delivers. Put the brain on hold and don't bother trying to make sense of what's going on. From the opening beer bottle which (apparently) opens a fissure under a lake to the lake itself being a hopping Spring Break location to the incredible strength of ski ropes.
..yeah, just enjoy the movie for what it is. Even if what it is runs a touch too long and becomes so convoluted there's no chance of it making logical sense.
