Review of Piranha 3D (2010) by Renzo V — 03 Mar 2014
"FAKE FISH. FAKE BOOBS. LOTS OF GORE.".
- 'Piranha 3D' is a 2010 horror comedy from director Alexandre Aja (Haute Tension, Mirrors) and a remake of the 1979 film. The film was released in 3D. It's thin plotline is overpowered by a mixture of uncensored nudity and explicit gore. It's CGI effects are over the top and look very fake. Still 'Piranha 3D' is able to make you laugh. Some shots are so ludicrous. In the cast we see Elisabeth Shue (Leaving Las Vegas), Adam Scott (Knocked Up), Ving Rhames (Mission: Impossible saga), Jerry O'Connell (Scream 2), Eli Roth (Inglorious Bastards), Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future Trilogy) and Richard Dreyfuss (Jaws). Is it good? No. Is it entertaining? Defiantly! How fast can you swim?
A small earthquake causes the floor of lake Victoria to crack open, releasing a school of flesh eating piranha's. Fisherman Matt Boyd (Dreyfuss), who is fishing, get surprised by the whirlpool, falls into the water and is devoured.
His body is found by Sheriff Julie Forester (Shue) and Deputy Fallon (Rhames). Closing up the lake for further investigation is not possible, because it's spring break and lots of students have come to the lake to enjoy themselves. While Fallon keeps an eye on the partying teenagers and her son Jake skips his babysitting duty to guide pornographer Derrick Jones (O'Connell) and his big breasted actresses, Julie joins the group of seismologist divers led by Novak (Scott) who want to search to bottom of the lake. Two of the divers get attacked by the fish. After capturing one of the animals, Julie and Novak take it to marine biologist Carl Goodman (Lloyd) who tells them that this piranha is a prehistoric super-aggressive species...
