Old and grainy childrens' Saturday matinee fare from the early 70's, with a live-action Pinocchio puppet celebrating his birthday party in the enchanted forest with human actors. It's got some catchy songs and styles. The sets are charmingly done in cardboard. A glittery flower-child woman plays the blue fairy. Gepetto is a crusty old professor-type. A spirited young man named "Pippifax" helps organize the party. The children attending the party look like child extras from a Star Trek episode. An evil wizard threatens havoc during the party, and is wonderfully performed with over-the-top acting.

The centerpiece of the birthday party is a magical storytelling mobile, which frames some unique stop-motion animated tales, including "Puss and Boots". The dolls used in the vignettes are wonderfully and exotically crafted. Some of the stories went on too long; I wanted them to get back to the party.

Overall, the movie is trippy and imaginative. Some of the elements are slightly creepy. I remember this being shown on television in the 70's. They ought to find a way to release this on DVD.
