Review of Pinocchio (2022) by Infrarecon — 17 May 2023
I watched this when it came to Disney+ a While ago, actually forgot to do a rating for it, luckily I'm full steam with reviews now.
Anyway compared to recent Disney content I am surprisingly less angry about this one, but that doesn't mean Disney is exempt from pushing out a chopped up and dumbed-down version of Pinocchio.
Let's begin, this film is dumped down, stripped apart and a lesser version of the original. The CGI is uncanny, the scenes have been swapped mixed and altered into this unrecognizable story.
The characters in this film were purposely swapped or taken out and do not match the time period in which they are in, there are scenes in this film that do not matter or push forward the plot.
And as mentioned before the flow of the scenes has been stripped apart. eg. remember when Pinocchio is going to school, yeah he was never supposed to make it in the first place, he was meant to be constantly influenced about becoming famous and making his father proud, by Honest John and his companion. Here it's completely unfocused, he makes it but is kicked out because the plot demanded it so.
But why am I rating it higher than usual, it's because it tried to do something different, that's not bad, besides the race swapping of course, but it tried.
Overall it's still not a good satisfying watch, it's half as good as the original, so it's a 4/10. It's watchable, not enjoyable, not complete, not source accurate, just plain watchable.
