A standout among early Disney for the bizarre internal logic of its plot. Misbehaving boys turning into donkeys? Sure! An offscreen whale-swallowing? Of course! Also, doll fetishes, absentee fatherhood, animal abuse (and that's just Gepetto).
I exaggerate, but the lasting appeal of "Pinocchio" is somewhere where family-friendly sentimentality and over-analysis collide. Kinda like a fairy tale...
