Review of Pinocchio (1940) by Alex C — 22 Jun 2012
I'm not going to pick a greatest Disney movie of all time. All of them have their high points and the best of them are near perfect films. However, Pinocchio stands at a masterpiece along the lines of Snow White, Bambi, and Mary Poppins because it is Disney at a special time in his career.
His animation still had the fantasy elements that he would eventually leave behind for realism. Not that realism meant a decrease in quality, but they were different. Pinocchio, even more than Snow White, is imagination and dreams up the whazoo.
The fact that the villain is a large talking animal, and no one notices, shows this. Pinocchio is one of the greatest films ever made, and contains one of the greatest songs ever written, and should be viewed by not just children, but anyone who enjoys good movies.
